Sleep Apnea Treatment
Do you snore? Many people do, and most assume it’s harmless. However, severe, chronic snoring can be a sign of a much more serious problem – sleep apnea. If you’ve been diagnosed with sleep apnea by your general doctor or a sleep specialist, don’t hesitate to contact Dr. Whitney Hustad Davidson and her team at Bluestone Dental for assistance. One of our customized oral appliances can be a big help in curbing your symptoms and helping you finally get a great night of rest.
Oral Appliance Therapy
CPAP machines are typically recommended for sleep apnea treatment, but lots of patients struggle with wearing a mask over their face, listening to the respirator’s loud noises all night, and having to cart all the bulky equipment around with them when they travel. Thankfully, oral appliance therapy can make all the difference in the world. This simple, customized appliance is very similar to a typical mouthguard, but it’s designed to slightly reposition the jaw and/or tongue or many patients, this is all the help they need to keep their airway clear and their breathing steady throughout the night.
Mandibular Advancing Devices
A mandibular advancing device is a specific kind of oral appliance that can be used to help patients suffering from sleep apnea. It works by gently shifting the lower jaw forward in order to prevent the airway from becoming blocked during sleep. Every device we provide is custom-made for each patient so that it comfortably fits over their teeth and enables them to sleep soundly throughout the night. It can also be used to treat associated TMJ issues that could be causing jaw pain and morning headaches!
